Terms of use

Chapter is built for high school clubs and the students and faculty advisors who run them. You must be 13 or older to create an account. Chapter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.

If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13, we will delete it and its data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will remove it.

Most clubs are school-sponsored, and your school's acceptable-use policy applies to Chapter the same as anything else you open on a school network or device.

• Use your real name — officers are approving your hours.
• One account per person. Don't share logins.
• Keep your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has access.
• You're responsible for what happens under your account.

• Don't log hours you didn't serve or upload proof photos that aren't yours. Falsifying service records is the one thing that would undermine the whole point of Chapter.
• Don't try to reach another club's data, another member's records, or any part of the system you weren't given access to.
• Don't upload anything you wouldn't hand to a teacher: no harassment, no explicit material, nothing illegal.
• Don't attack the service — no scanning, flooding, or automated abuse. If you've found a security problem, tell us instead; we'd genuinely rather hear from you.

Accounts that break these rules can be suspended or removed — usually by your own club's advisor, who has final say over their roster.

Your club's data belongs to your club.Hours, events, dues records, meeting notes, resources — all of it. An advisor can export it or delete it at any time, and we don't claim ownership of it or use it for anything except running Chapter for you.

We own the software itself. You're welcome to use it; you can't copy or resell it as your own.

Chapter is free. There is no paid tier, no trial that expires, and no credit card anywhere in the product.

Dues and fundraiser amounts are recorded in Chapter but never collectedthrough it. That money moves through your school's activity fund exactly as it does today, and Chapter is a ledger, not a payment processor.

We'll do our best to keep Chapter running, keep your data safe, and fix things that break. We take backups and we treat student data carefully — the security page explains how.

What we can't promise: that Chapter will never go down, never lose data, or never have a bug. It's free software built and maintained by a student, provided as-is, without warranties. Don't make Chapter the only copy of something you can't afford to lose — export your reports at the end of each term, which takes one click.

To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses arising from using Chapter.

You can leave a club or stop using Chapter whenever you want. An advisor can remove any member, or delete the whole club and its data. We may suspend an account that's being used to abuse the service or other people.

If these terms change in a way that actually matters, we'll update the date at the top and say so in the app. Continuing to use Chapter after that means the new terms apply.
